Asilah
On the northwest region of the country of Morocco, the city of Asilah, also known as Arzila, has a glorious past that contributes to its famed reputation.
Asilah is known for being a major cultural heritage site in Morocco as one of the most beautiful cities in the country. Tranquil and pristine beaches border the north and south of the town as it looks out onto the Atlantic Ocean, offering vistors a charming unparalleled vista that is postcard perfect.
This popular resort town and city of artisans was restored in the late 1970’s. The city of Asilah consists of a charming medina with its unique wall art work and paintings by African artists, as well as a ville nouvelle located north east to the medina.
With its city history dating back to 1500 B.C., the city’s roots lay in its location as its cliffs jutt out into the Atlantic Ocean, as it was used by the Phoenicians as a trading site. In the 15th Century, the town was taken by the Moroccans under the leadership of Moulay Ismail. Its location later on would serve as a base for pirates as the city became part of Spanish Morocco in the 20th Century.
Guest visiting the city are invited to take a stroll down the seaside beach fronts and enjoy a cup of cool mint tea in one of the cafes with the locals and their charming banter. Nothing simpler than a relaxing drink can be expected from this paradise after soaking up the summer rays on its sands.
